Conviasa is to be equipped with 20 new aircraftThe Minister for Water and Air Transport, Hebert Garcia, arrived on the Alberto Carnevalli airport of Merida to provide details about assessments being conducted by the Government for the renewal of the national air fleet.

Accompanied by the President of the National Institute of Civil Aviation (INAC), Francisco Paz Fleitas, the governor of Merida, Alexis Ramirez, vice president of the Canadian company Bombardier and domestic airline executives, García Minister emphasized that the Government is working on the renovation national air fleet and the expansion of air routes in the country.

“We are testing an airplane factory Bombardier Q400 model, with capacity for 70 passengers Canadian manufacturing equipment for special airports” said the Minister García.

He reported that at the request of President Nicolas Maduro is preparing a plan for acquisition of aircraft, designed to connect in Amazonas state the cities of San Carlos of Black River and San Fernando de Atabapo to Puerto Ayacucho, the capital.

The plan also provides for the acquisition of ten aircraft for regional routes, and to that end are evaluated ATR and Bombardier Q400, which will also be used for connections to the islands of the Caribbean, which would add to the aircraft acquisition process, which is already up of twenty Embraer for Conviasa state that will cover domestic and international routes.

For intercontinental routes the Government is planning to purchase three Airbus 340 aircraft covering routes to Europe and South America .

Referring to private sector participation in the renewal of the national air fleet, the Minister Garcia said: “The first statement we have the President of the Republic, is twinned collaborate and work with the private sector that respects the Bolivarian government” said.

In the case of Mérida, Garcia reported that as of August 15 Avior airline will begin operations in the capital Merida with a daily flight, using for this purpose Fokker 50 aircraft model fifty passengers.

In reference to the evaluation of Bombardier Q400 aircraft said: “This is an aircraft that is in a test flight, is a proposal that both private and state-owned lines Conviasa will evaluate to present to President Nicolas Maduro and then decide according to the offers that we are presenting”.

The activation plan routes to and from Merida plans to open flights to Maracaibo, Valencia and Margarita, among other destinations to be assessed according to demand.

“We will open as many routes as necessary for the people of Merida” said the Minister García.
